Verse of the Day 1-13-13

“To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:19-20 KJV

2 Corinthians 5

King James Version (KJV)

5 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

12 For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.

13 For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.

14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

The Flagellation of Our Lord Jesus Christ (1880)

1-Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

2-Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

3-That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

4-And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath; but bring them up in the nurture,

and admonition of the Lord.

5-Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and

trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

6-Not with eyeservice, as menpleasures; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God

from the heart;

7-With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

8-Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the

Lord, whether he be bond or free.

9-And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that

your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

10-Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

11-Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the

devil.

12-For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers,

against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13-Wherefore take unto you the the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to

withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14-Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate

of righteousness;

15-And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16-Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the

fiery darts of the wicked.

17-And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

18-Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto

with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

19-And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to

make known the mystery of the gospel,

20-For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to

speak.

21-But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tych-i-cus, a beloved brother and

faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:

22-Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and

that he might comfort your hearts.

23-Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus

Christ.

24-Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen

.12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
   11 – The whole armor The armor is different because, in v12, the battle is different.
   12 – Rulers of the darkness See jn1231; ep0202. Before the coming of Jesus, the occult will be have a stronger influence 2th0208,9, re1614, re1313. I believe we see this now.
   On another page, I share basic thoughts on Pokémon and Harry Potter p&hp.
  12 – In high places Translated “in heavenly places” elsewhere. See on ep0103. The wickedness may be in places of authority or by leaders who pretend to sit with Christ presuming to have His authority. I prefer the latter.
.13  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
 14  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

The word appears “only in 1Sa 17:6, a piece of defensive armour (q.v.) reaching from the foot to the knee.” (Eastons Bible Dict.) The soldier of Christ would would need to stand firm v13.   17 – Sword … is word of God is4902. The Greek  for “word” is from rhema meaning “something spoken.” so the sword is more than the Scriptures. Because all scripture is inspired 2ti0316, what is spoken is in harmony with truth. It could also be the words of a prophet. The primary meaning is the Bible as defined in our verse.
 18  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
 19 ¶ And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
